Web Home Page: Michiru Mountain Conservation Area covers 5 000 of mountain massif and serves as a centre for environmental education, with areas set aside for forestry, agriculture, and natural vegetation with the wildlife it supports. The area contains a large expanse of woodland and includes patches of riverine and montane forest. Mammals include bushbuck, common duiker, klipspringer, site-striped jackal, spotted hyena, leopard, serval, baboon, vervet monkey and thick-tailed bushbaby. More than 200 bird species have been recorded. Location: Southern Malawi; north-west of Blantyre. Access: Michiru Mountain lies just outside Blantyre; the route is signposted. Accommodation: Cleared areas are available for camping, but facilities are very basic, There are hotels in Blantyre. Other facilities: Self-guided-walking trails; night hiking is permitted; picnic sites with fireplaces; a curio shop. Open: Throughout the year. Beware: Malaria.
